Mersea 01-Warning_Siren

Mersea - In 2000-2001, I did a few cartoons for a friend's (now defunct) website. It's original title at the time was "Syrens", but I changed it when I learned the name, and spelling, was being used by a musical group.

All the panels were done in india ink with a brush, and then scanned and cleaned up in Painter. They were all black and white, and all were originally hand-lettered... the quality of which I was never happy with.

Recently, I decided to change the name and dust off some of the better panels and color them. I used Painter to add the color, as all the original images were still in RIFF format. After they were colored, I used Comic Life Deluxe to redo the lettering. Most of the panels and strips I haven't looked at in a while, but a few of them brought a renewed smile to my face.

This was the first of the panels. It wasn't quite what I hoped for... the ship looks like a toy, but I wasn't sure how else I could do it.

I love her expression, though. I guess not every mermaid is a gifted singer.
